The land in the area around Bosley village was once in the hands of the family of William, Duke of Normandy. It latterly passed to wealthy land-owners the Harringtons, for whom The Harrington Arms is named.

From the Clifford Rathbone Collection. Rathbone (d.1975) was a journalist, local historian, and editor of the Macclesfield Times and Courier (later the Macclesfield Express) for many years.
